The October 25 date is full of events. And it lacks the anniversary for the free software, the Linux Day 2008, celebrated in 124 Italian cities. Although it is not the only free operating system, Linux in the years they have become synonymous. The anniversary is promoted by the Italian Linux Society (ILS) and organized locally by the different groups (called Lug, the "Linux Users Group") and other groups that share the aims of the event. The first edition of the Linux Day was held on December 1, 2001 in about forty towns scattered throughout the country. The number has increased significantly over the years has become a major event in the Italian landscape of free software.
